There have been many times while on this site that I have said that we should "go back" to our Constitution, and to the basic Judeo-Christian values which began this nation and have exemplified our exceptionalism as a country and as a people. There are those who take exception to this idea, and, in some instances, give some reason or another for refuting this thought. So, not being a person who has the expertise or the knowledge for writing in a clear and concise manner, I offer this partial quote:
"Besides the complexity of the laws themselves, and the fallibility of man in interpreting them, the medium through which men convey ideas to each other - namely the words - adds yet another obstacle. The purpose of words is to express ideas. Therefore, for the sake of clarity, not only should ideas be distinctly formed, but they should be expressed by words uniquely and exclusively suitable to them. But no language has words and phrases to express every complex idea, and none has been so perfect that the words and phrases it does have are not at times ambiguous. None are capable of describing different ideas at the same time. Therefore, it must always be the case that, no matter how accurately certain things may be differentiated from each other, and no matter how accurately such differentiation may have been conceived in someone's mind, the definition may turn out to be inaccurate simply because of the inaccuracy in the terms used to describe them. This unavoidable imprecision will tend to vary, depending on the complexity and uniqueness of the things being defined. When the Almighty Himself comes down to address mankind in their own language, His meaning, as luminous as it must be, will be rendered dim and doubtful by virtue of the cloudy medium through which it is communicated."
Some will doubtless say that we need laws that keep order in our society. To those I would retort that we have so many laws and regulations in our society that there are times that one must break one law to abide by another. To "go back" to our Constitutional founding, and abide by those laws and mandates, and using the laws of morality, merit, praise and punishment which are evident in both the Old and New Testament, we can once again be the exceptional people and nation which we were.
