With Memorial Day approaching Americans should be preparing to honor our veterans and military heroes currently fighting for us as well as remembering those we have lost. This honor should be especially due from our own government that has sent these brave men and women off to war. Unfortunately, th...

A driver was stuck in a traffic jam on the beltway outside Washington DC.  Nothing had moved for 30 minutes.  Suddenly, a man walks up and taps on his window. The driver rolls it down and asks, "What's going on?" "Terrorists have kidnapped Congress, and they're asking for a $100 million...

Last week I had an Accountant (CPA) come into my office with her husband who happened to be a banker. She had requested the meeting because she needed “a good person to refer her clients to for investment and insurance needs.” What she was really looking for was aneasy way to make m...

  • This is a tough question but one that needs to be addressed. All you have to do is search this topic and just read the one liner’s that pop up. Things like “the world is doomed” and “total chaos” will come up almost immediately. The sad thing is that for most citizens t...

  • This 1921 essay/obituary of Mary White, written by her father, was required reading when I was in school.  It wasn't only for the grammar and writing style, but for the topic as well.  It was a unique look at the life of a young girl so many years ago.  I'm glad I had the chance to re...

The Socialist Peanut Butter Cup

  • Socialism, since it goes against the very nature of humanity, must always make sure it makes itself look good.  Therefore, quantity, rather than quality is counted as the important concern for a company under socialism.  Here let me illustrate it for you.

The Socialist Reeses Peanut Butter Cup will have sub-par chocolate (to reduce costs on the company) with a gooey peanut butter (probably not real peanut butter) center that simply falls through the bottom of the Peanut Butter Cup making a big mess of things.  Since Reeses has been nationalized under government control there is no competition, so this is the confection you are stuck with.  Deal with it, comrade or off to the gulags!

The Capitalist Reeses Peanut Butter Cup is...well.....go to your local convenience store and buy one, eat and relish in the glory of free market capitalism.  Since Reeses knows that there is competition out there for Peanut Butter filled confections, they have to make their product at greater quality standards.  Ahh there's that keyword: quality.

Apply the examples above to government and you can see why we oppose socialism.

Jeff S. Eric, I could not agree more. Competition solves alot of problems. Frankly, there is not one sector of our economy that does not come under the governments thumb. Is this by design? Yes, I think so, and for one simple reason that you pointed out, to elimi...  more
