A Tragedy That Makes No Sense

  • I live in Southern Jersey and for the most part it's relatively quiet here, but this past week our news has been about a tragedy concerning a 12 year old girl who disappeared over the weekend and was found dead in a blue recycling can.  Now, they have the two that are responsible in custody.  Now the synopsis of the reasoning is is that they lured this poor girl into their home, killed her all over her bicycle.  I mean, I've read crazy stuff out there such as kids killing each other over shoes and game systems, but this just seems outlandish.

Where am I going with this?  Well, unfortunately it's to touch on an issue no one wants to bring up in the media and, to warn everyone who might be easily offended, touch upon the hypocrisy of the mainstream media.  Now before I go all out ranting, I want to state that I do not nor will ever condone racism nor racially motivated violence. I do not believe in any race being superior to another because in the end down to our very DNA we are ALL human beings and should be respected as such.

    Now onto my rant.

In Clayton, NJ a 12 year old girl was lured into the home of two brothers, ages 15 & 17 years old.  They killed her over her bicycle, to strip it of parts.  Now, prior to all of this these two brothers were known to steal bikes. Let me reiterate my problem with the story: they lured her into their house and killed her all because of their desire for her bicycle and it's parts.  Somethings wrong here.  Like I've stated earlier, I know that people kill others for the most ridiculous things, but this one just rings too hollow for me to simply ignore.  And since the two brothers happen to be African-American, I have to wonder what the reaction would be if it were two white brothers killing a black girl over such nonsense.  I have no doubt that this would be considered a hate crime and that the media would state it as such while also posting the contents of the teens FaceBook pages that show their vile racist attitude.  However, at the moment we're not being told what exactly was found on the two brothers Facebook pages only that one status update insinuated having to move soon.  Now, I get it that the younger brother has developmental issues due to the fact that he was going to a school specialized for youths with developmental issues, but from what I gather from the lack of details on the older brother that he is at least of more of a sound mind than his younger sibling so we at least know one of them should have had the mental capabilities to say, "Hey this is not right!".

So to crux of my rant.

Let's go back to the idea I touched on before if it were two white brothers who had killed an African-American girl for her bicycle?  Well, it would've been no different whenever a minority is killed by a white person, it was racially motivated no matter if it wasn't.  So, back to reality, why isn't the media jumping all over this with accusations of racism on the part of the murderers?  And yes they are murderers because the guilt s already there.  Hell you had the mother of these murderers turn her own kids in because of suspicious Facebook postings (which the only detail told is of the whole moving bit, but there seems to be more), so even the mother doesn't seem to find her own children innocent.  Plus, the blue recycle bin the 12 year old girl was found in was on an abandoned property next to the two brothers house. And so far, they haven't denied it.  So, yes they are guilty. So, I say to the news media: what if?  What if it were also racially motivated?  Why not ask that question?  Why not investigate it further?  And while you're at it, why not investigate their absent father who, though having not been in their lives for 5 -7 years, happened to have time for an interview.  He states he was surprised.  Why?  How?  You haven't seen them for close to a decade!  A real man doesn't do that.  He steps up and gets to know his sons and hopefully influence them with positive morals not this backwards callous example of humanity lacking in morals. So, maybe it would be more prudent to look into the father, a deeper journalistic investigation into this man.  How about it, media?  This is your job.  Do it!

Now, do I actually believe this was REALLY motivated by race? I'm on the fence about that to be honest.  The whole point is to bring to light the hypocrisy of the media to jump to conclusions, just like the example I've written here, that if it's white on black crime it's obviously racially motivated, but if it's black on white crime it's a statistic.  This, in my humble opinion, is wrong and racist of the media to assume that ANY crime between two races is instantly racist in nature.  It might not be, so why should we assume, like I have, without more facts?  I would like to see the Facebook pages of these brothers and hear their words on why they did this in order to formulate a more thought out conclusion, but alas I don't believe we will be privy to such material.  We'll be pondering this for a long while wondering what went through these brothers heads when they committed this heinous act of malevolence? And truly, is it wrong for anyone to ponder if this is indeed racially motivated as well or to even call out the media on it's hypocrisy?  No!  This is part of being human and having the ability to rationalize which in turn means having the ability to question and point things that need to questioned and pointed out.

Now, if you got this far and happen to be some coked out, racist agitator, you will be blocked and ignored, so don't waste your time.  If you have constructive criticism, then please let me hear it, but be civil.  If you can't be civil then you will be wasting my time because civility is to respected while baseless lambasting only paints you as childish.  You have been warned.

Sue Karen Eric, thank-you for sharing your thoughts, I really don't know enough about this story to have an opinion. I'm just so grieved at how many young children are being murdered, and for what? If the Dad, in this case was not a part of these young boys lives,...  more

Doug Walters I posted this story on here when it happened and the article had no mention of race. I assumed it was two white teens. I posted it because I thought it was a senseless crime and because a classy mother turned in her own sons.

Jonathan Cousar By the way I forgot to ask you the obligatory question: "HOW CAN A BLACK PERSON BE RACIST!?"

And I also forgot to obligatorily accuse YOU of being the racist for bringing up their race.
