About Joe Kaufman’s commitment to making a difference and standing up against injustice began at an early age as he listened to his grandmother, Ruth, around the kitchen table of their home in Yonkers, New York. After Joe’s parents split up, Joe was raised by his mother’s parents, loving people who inspired his interest in events that impact the lives of families in our neighborhoods and throughout the world, along with his lifelong passion for sports. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications at the University of Maryland, Joe moved to Broward County to care for his ailing grandmother. He has been an active member of the local community for over 17 years. As an investigative journalist for FrontPage Magazine and the Hudson Institute and a lecturer for the David Horowitz Freedom Center, Joe earned national acclaim for his fight to expose the activities of hate groups that operate under the radar in communities throughout the United States. He has courageously fought to shut down charities that raise funds in South Florida and elsewhere in support of terrorist organizations that conspire to kill Americans overseas. Joe’s work led to numerous arrests and deportations and has been widely featured in the national media, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, C-SPAN and elsewhere. He has also served as a guest lecturer at many prominent universities, including the University of Miami, UCLA and Washington University in Saint Louis. Joe formerly worked as Assistant Producer for the G. Gordon Liddy radio program and, up until a few years ago, had his own radio show. Joe was also the editor of a newspaper and a writer for Jeb Bush’s publication, Impact. In 1988, Joe established Americans Against Hate (“AAH”), a non-profit 501(c)3, with the mission of combating bigotry and exposing the activities of radical extremist organizations and individuals operating within America. As chairman of AAH, Joe has provided expert testimony to law enforcement and government officials through presentations at a number of hearings and conferences. Beyond his work as an investigative journalist and leader of AAH, Joe has been an active member of the South Florida community, where he has in the past supported activities of groups such as the Broward County Special Olympics, AIPAC and the Anti-Defamation League. Joe’s wife, Emily, grew up in Lima, Peru. She spent many of her early years living in Israel and moved to the United States in 2005. While Ruth died in 2008, her influence on Joe’s life very much led to his decision to run for Congress. “My grandmother taught me every day what it meant to love America, Israel and the values that are the heart of Judaism. I know how sad she’d be to see Debbie Wasserman Schultz talking about those same values in campaign speeches and meetings, while she works to undermine their very essence. I owe it to Ruth and so many other courageous, honest and wise men and women like her to fight for what’s right on behalf of my friends, family and neighbors in the 20th Congressional District.”
