"You and I are told increasingly that we have to choose between a left or right, but I would like to suggest that there is no such thing as a left or right. There is only an up or down–up to a man’s age-old dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order–or down to the ant heap totalitarianism, and regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course." -Ronald Regan

To understand Regan's profound quote, bend the traditional Left/Right line into a circle, and think of politics in terms of government control over our lives, rather than ideology. Then you will understand why most Americans eschew partisanship, think of themselves as independents and moderates, and vote for the candidate closest to the center field position. A great many who label themselves as Constitutional conservatives on the Right, are more accurately militant moderates near top dead center on my chart, which is where our Founders would be found. ◄Dave►
